Wayne is a 74 year old man who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer last year. Before the doctors would perform surgery, Wayne needed to pack on some weight and muscle to give himself a better chance of recovering. He came to Body By Design and trained with Joey for 3 months before the surgery and they not only stopped the weight loss he was battling, but actually put on 10 pounds. 3 months later he underwent surgery, chemo and radiation. His recovery was one of the quickest the doctors had ever seen. Wayne came back to us cancer free a few months ago with neuropathy in his hands and feet from the chemo and extremely weak and regressed. "The beginning of 2013, health issues, giant-sized portions and my extremely sedentary lifestyle all contributed to me hitting my heaviest weight ever. A trip to Mexico to celebrate a wedding made me realize how bad it had really gotten. Walking from my room to the beach took a ton of effort...then walking on the beach – it was like walking in knee-deep mud! My decision to make health and wellness changes happened on my plane ride home – when I was too big for the seat belt & had to request an extender. I was completely embarrassed!
I started at Body By Design with Boot Camp and had great success. Then, my success was really amplified when I started personal training with Alex in October. I like to joke around and compare the trainers at Body by Design like some of those famous trainers out there – but all kidding aside, Alex is amazing. He really is the
strong, supportive trainer. Alex is the guy who fully believes in you before you even know that you are someone who is valuable enough to put effort forth let alone believe in. Since I started Body by Design I can do things I neverthought possible. I can now successfully perform dead lifts and box jumps – I can flip a tractor tire around the gym and pull myself from laying to standing

"I started at Body By Design in September 2013. Prior to that, I had been using my treadmill at home religiously since January 2013. I joined the boot camps using a Groupon to see if this was something I would like or keep up with. I loved it! It was hard, but I had results in the first month, so I joined. I was looking to get into better shape to keep up with my kids and not be so tired all the time. I had done some blood work we had to do for work, and was totally healthy, but the outreach nurse said if I didn't make changes now, that would change. Having 2 little kids, that was my incentive. That still keeps me motivated. I was also motivated to reach my high school weight before my 20th class reunion. I'm happy to say I made the weight BEFORE that reunion last fall! My new goal is my drivers license weight from when I was 16! "My main goal in coming to Body By Design was not for weight loss, but for strength training to combat a joint related condition that I have. Increased joint pain had been limiting my physical activity, decreasing my overall stability, and let to weight gain.
Joey was able to come up with a blueprint that would allow me to achieve both. A big part of that plan was working with my personal trainer Tyler for 3 days each week. Tyler is able to see past my physical limitations and create a plan to increase my overall strength and stability, while being flexible enough to adjust to any bumps in the road. He also is able to decrease muscle strain that can occur when I exercise certain joints. I would not have come as far as I have without Tyler's unwavering support, understanding and encouragement. He has really strived to understand my condition and worked with me to get beyond it.

"My doctor says I'm the healthiest I've been in 14 years!"
"My goal was to lose some weight, improve my health and feel and look better overall. In the 10 weeks since I joined I have lost 9 pounds and 6 inches overall. While 9 pounds may not seem like much to some, I am an insulin dependent diabetic (Type I) which makes losing weight several time harder than a normal person. More importantly I recently received my quarterly blood test results from my physician and the ratings were the best I have EVER had!
My hemoglobin A1C result (measurement of your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months) was 6.6, which was down from 7.6 at my previous test. This is the first time I have been below 7 (6 is recommended) since I was diagnosed in 1999! In addition my cholesterol lowered by 41 points well into the safe zone, both HDL and LDL are well within the desired limits.
Today I feel better physically and mentally. Body by Design not only gave us the jump start I needed to get in shape, they gave me the fitness and nutritional tools I needed to continue my journey of health and fitness."

"I have had a slow and steady transformation but feel it is one of the reasons for my continued success. I had some severe back pain and a very unhealthy lifestyle before I began. I was

Before I began my weight-loss journey my life was about food. I loved food so much that it was the one thing that I was thinking about all the time. I would sit down for a meal (which was normally fast food) and eat a large Big Mac meal with extra sauce, and another sandwich or two. A double cheeseburger was just a snack! This was my life. I would start my day with three donuts and a big glass of chocolate milk or huge bottle of soda. I didn’t care about anything in my life but eating. I thought food was my happiness. I felt like without it in my life I would not be happy.
In January 2013, my life changed. I saw an ad for Body By Design and I knew that was exactly what I needed. It was tough at first, but by doing the boot camps I started to see the pounds shed off. By October I was getting very close to 100 pounds lost, so I decided I needed a little bit more help. That’s when I asked Carly to be my trainer. I told her I wanted to reach the 100 pounds lost mark by Thanksgiving, which kind of seemed like a lot. But with Carly’s push and support I made it!
Now that I have been with Body By Design for a year, I’ve lost over 120 pounds! My journey has not always been perfect but had not been for Carly and the Body By Design team I would not be where I am today! They are always there for you!

"A year ago, the thought of climbing 3 flights of stairs made me cringe. Fast forward a year- and I just conquered climbing a mountain-in a nearly 15 mile Spartan race- in Squaw Valley. I never in a million years thought it would be possible.

"My journey started in December 2013, when I realized that I was one double cheeseburger away from 300 pounds. That is when I decided to take control my weight. "Six years ago, at age 56, my doctor ordered me to exercise due to a medical condition. Prior to exercising at a local fitness center I weighed 150 pounds. I began a regular workout routine that consisted of weight machines and walking on the treadmill. Three years late, I felt I was not getting enough and I decided to work with a personal trainer.

"In 2008 I graduated High School as a varsity athlete weighing 175 lbs. Instead of pursuing a soccer career at the University of Wisconsin I chose to go to the University of Missouri to begin focusing more on Business. It was the first time in my life I was not on an organized team of any kind and I really struggled with holding myself accountable to stay in shape. By the time I graduated college in 2012 I weighed 210 lbs. In August of 2014 I weighed 230 lbs. My weight and fitness had spiraled out of control and that's when I came in to Body By Design.
My trainer Ryan has been exactly what I needed in my life. In the gym he's incredibly motivating and pushes me each and every workout without letting me get away with anything. Absolutely no excuses. I hear a lot of personal trainers at other gyms claim they will tailor their workout to each individual client but that turns out to be not true. Ryan talks to me about specifics I want to improve on which is a big deal to me. Another key component to my positive experience at Body By Design is Ryan's focus towards my lifestyle outside of the gym. We talk about my diet constantly and he coaches me on how to handle different situations.

"In March of 2011 my best friend did something brave; he told me that I was overweight, depressed and he wasn't going to stand by and let me be this way. I was mad that he confronted me but after a while I realized he was right. In the past 5 years my health had taken a backseat; in 2006 my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, 2009 I found a blood clot in my knee and in November of 2010 I was in a car crash. But I had enough. I wasn't going to let my adversity control me.
The next day (after my friend left) I found Joey. That's when my life changed. I was scared. I weighed 279 and I was turning 40 in October. I had all these goals and no motivation to get there but having Joey there helped me push past my fears. Now I run races and have motivated my family to do them with me.
